Happy 13th Birthday, Gabe!!!
My baby is 13. Thirteen! He's a teenager and I can hardly wrap my head around that fact.
Having a milestone birthday during a time like this is not fun, but will certainly be memorable. There was no party, of course. No get-together with friends. No dining out at the Cheesecake Factory as is tradition.
I've been more thankful than usual that we live in the country and that we have family next door. Both of those things made all of the difference.
We started off with opening gifts. Both Tim and Karen went to some extra effort to wrap his gift in fun ways. Karen also hid hers in the yard.
Ben and I put together a scavenger hunt that lead him around the yard and into the woods where he had to dig up his ultimate gift - a (used) phone.
After traipsing all over the yard, we were ready for a break so we headed back inside for gluten free funfetti cupcakes with homemade buttercream icing.
Karen and Tim stayed and played Jackbox games until it got late.
We'd also alerted family and friends of Gabe's phone number so they could text him and tell him Happy Birthday.
Oh, and he did get his slice of cheesecake - we were still able to do curbside pick-up the night before. It wasn't the same, but it was still yummy.
He seemed very upbeat and said it was a great birthday. I hope he always treasures these memories and the well-wishes of his friends and family during this crazy time. And I hope next year is completely back to normal.
