A Day at the Zoo
We had such a nice day at the zoo!
We've been to our zoo many, many times over the years and always appreciate it. It's very well done and they are constantly updating and adding new features. Plus, it's FREE. But sometimes, if I'm honest, it's a bit hum-drum.
I know, it's a rough life.
Anyway, one of the ladies in my homeschool support group posted a link to homeschool classes at the zoo. I'd never heard of such a thing! At $20 it adds up quickly, but it's a two-hour class so I felt like it was worth doing once or twice a year. I signed up both boys (their class times coincided) and one of Gabe's friends signed up as well, so he had a buddy.
My friend and I dropped off the kids and then walked around with her little ones. We chatted, I took pictures, and we just enjoyed the pretty day.

We really enjoyed watching the elephants. This one kept drawing up water with his trunk, pouring it on the dirt, mixing the dirt and water to make mud, and then spraying the mud on his back! So fun!

After their classes were finished, Gabe requested to see the penguins.

The penguin on the far left was hysterical. He stayed in the exact spot during the entire feeding and the keeper threw his fish to him. He was a great catch!

We took a quick peek at the polar bear, too. He was up and about and fun to watch.
The zoo was getting ready to close and we were hungry so we said goodbye to our friends and headed home. In the car the boys told me about their classes. Luke learned about bones and Gabe learned about animal communication. They took little field trips to various enclosures and got up close with different animals and insects. Luke gotto touch an owl and Gabe got to touch a hissing cockroach, a dove, and a guinea pig. They were so excited. I'm looking forward to checking out a couple other classes come Fall!
