March 2015 Health Update

What a weird, frustrating, confusing time.

A few weeks before the time change, I was starting to feel good. Like, really, really good. I woke up each morning, sans alarm, at 7am. Cheerfully and with energy. I was calm and balanced and felt good all day long. I was pretty darn tired by 8pm, but it was a happy trade-off and I was so excited. I was looking forward to my next Dr. appt. I couldn't wait to tell Dr. K that I was pretty much "better" aside from the weight issue. I was flying high. Unicorns, rainbows, and all that.

And then it all came crashing down. The day of my birthday, I woke up with the most painful back/neck mess I've ever had. Even after a trip to the chiro, I was still in agonizing pain. I woke up about 20 times a night because I could not simply shift or roll over without gasping in pain while inch-worming my way around. It was awful. It didn't help that on day two of that mess it was daylight savings time. After my back healed (7 days) I was completely back to where I started where sleep and energy were concerned.

I dragged myself to Dr. K's so he could go over my latest cortisol test. Even though the test was taken during the "good streak" it was still showing really wonky levels. My cortisol is too high too early and then too low in the afternoon. Since I had been doing so well, he wanted to start me back up on my previous round of supplements, but sloooowly to see what would get me back there without going overboard. Which is all fine and well and makes sense, but I really just want a magic wand or a time machine or a special pill that will take care of this once and for all NOW.

He also encouraged me to get really serious about avoiding foods that I'm allergic/sensitive to. I've been great at avoiding gluten, dairy, corn, and soy, but I have a whole list of other things that I'm sensitive to that I've had to give up. Including onion and coconut. There are various levels with some foods being worse than others. I decided to try and stay away from even the least offensive foods, for a bit, just to give my system a rest. It's a pain, but I'm getting tired of all this. If I'me going to do it, I might as well go all in! :)

I also decided, on my own, to go ahead and do a month of gut healing shakes. Dr. K. had me on these shakes when I first saw him and boy did it help. The effects lasted until the holidays when I screwed it up. So I'm back to the shakes and even just 2 weeks in I see improvements.

I'm trying to stay positive and hope that things will turn around again and soon!
