January 2015 Recap

Our home appraisal kicked off the month. The loan processes was really dragging along at this point and we weren't sure how the appraisal was going to go down. We'd paid the contractor ourselves so that he could get started on the siding. Then we realized that the appraiser would be appraising a half-sided house. Our loan agent wasn't entirely sure how that would effect us so we were holding our breath. Thankfully that turned out fine and we were able to move along in the process!

We celebrated my niece's 8th birthday party at the skating rink.

Luke had only been skating once, when he was about 3. Gabe had never been. It was a disaster, at first, but they progressed quite a bit in a short time. We really should take them more often.

8 years old!! I remember the first time I held her. She was teeny tiny and only weighed 5lbs!!

On MLK Day, the girls were off of school so they stayed the night with us. They brought their craft boxes and we got to do some fun, girly crafts (even Luke joined in, shhh) and they kids all played together really well. We still had our gingerbread houses hanging around so Tim put his slow-mo camera on them and the kids took turns destroying them. Being destructive is fun!

The last week in January brought us rapid progress on the house. The contractor started framing and we finally signed on the loan on the 30th! Whew. Better late than never.

It was also a bittersweet week because it was Luke's last race car derby with the Cub Scouts. He and Ben, with the help of my brother and his wood-working tools, made a sleek car that performed wayyy better than his previous cars. We were excited.  The big night came and he ended up taking third in his age group! Talk about thrilled.

Speaking of Scouts, we're working hard to get all our ducks in a row as Luke prepares for his cross over into Boy Scouts. We've been finishing up badges, preparing his arrow of light, and attending info meetings on his new troop. I'm really excited, proud, and nostalgic. I remember when he first started, as a sweet-faced little Tiger Cub and now he's almost a Boy Scout. I remember how old Boy Scouts used to look to me. Now my little man is almost one of them.

Ben and I ended the month by attending the RV show downtown. It was neat and a bit overwhelming. We aren't in the market for an RV any time soon, but we know several couples who have one and love it so we wanted to see what's out there. Fun, fun!
